VELOCIDAD

Reviews

Fathom: More Like Phantom

"This setup hits different in person. The deck art is on another level. I immediately rolled to the hardware store to give the trucks a custom enamel finish. It’s incredibly planted for a surfskate, providing a rock-solid commute while still letting you pump and carve with ease. I’m still chasing that deep, dramatic dive of a C7, but this build is undeniable. The Icarus was the gold standard for a long time, but the Fathom just took the crown. The Build: • Deck: Loaded Fathom • Wheels: Orangatang Kegel (80mm) • Trucks: Carver CX Front / C2 Rear • Hardware: Loaded Zee Brackets Clean, stable, and looks lethal."

Sick ride

"These boards are extremely fast. So fast I actually tore my knee and broke a piece of bone out of my femur. Other than that these boards are smooth and awesome to ride. I have the Starship edition and its design is pretty sweet. Whenever I heal I can't wait to take it to Colorado to give it a spin."

Jose (5/5)

"My favorite board! I feel like I'm neglecting everything else. This says fathom custom complete but I only got the deck. I used the same brackets and Paris v3 with dad bods. It's the same setup as the complete I just already had some parts.agai. This is my favorite board!"

Mat (5/5)

"Fun as hell. The first ride was almost worth the whole cost of this board. Rolls forever and devours all the cracks and bumps that the streets and sidewalks throw at you like it's munching on tic tacs."

Q&A

Hi, did the board allows carving? Pumping ?
A joy to carve. Wider S-carves with the larger 105mm Dad Bod, and tighter with the 85mm Caguama. For a more efficient pumping set-up you would want to make the board directional and use a 43* baseplate on the rear.
I think this is the solution I've been looking for!! I'd like to travel longterm with this board. It hits the sweet spot with size and weight for being in medium-sized luggage, mostly because of the awesome truck design. About every 3-4 weeks, I get on a plane, so every 3-4 weeks, I'll be taking the trucks off. Deck goes in the check-in, trucks go in the backpack. Do you see any issues with this? Do you predict wear n tear on the trucks/screws/screw holes? Thanks!
Awesome, glad you're stoked on the system. The only issue are the locknuts that contain nylon inserts to prevent the nut from vibrating loose. After about four or five removals the nylon will fray. Fortunately any 10-32 size locknut will work as a replacement and they are only a few cents each.
Can you slide on the Fhatom? With a set of different wheels of course, what would you recommend for a freeride set up? I love the design of the board but really want to slide
It is difficult to learn to slide on the Fathom, but experienced riders certainly can. And yes, your choice of wheel is important. Harder, (to slide), with the sharp lipped 105mm Dad Bod, easier with the bevel lipped 85mm Caguama, and easiest with the rounded edge, less offset 75mm Durian. Using wheels smaller than 75mm would mean there is a danger of the deck contacting the ground, since it is such a low profile.
Rider weight of 215lbs ok for the Fathom?
Ideal weight! Both the deck and bracket system are designed for 250 lb, (113 kg) during normal use which includes some pumping. Riders 250-300 lb (136 kg) should minimize pumping to avoid stress.
How do you think this board would fare for mild downhill use? Speed wobbles? Can't tell from the vid whether the board is stiff or flexy. (Looks flexy) Also, does this weigh more than the Omakase?
Short answer is that it's not designed as a downhill, but if you are a competent skater very stiff double barrel bushings, (ours are too high rebound), would be best over 20mph. Consider your trucks. Aera feel great with your foot behind the bolts. Rogue feel better with your foot over the truck. Contact us at dontwalk@loadedboards.com if you want us to get really geeky!
