I was looking for the Zigzag attack organized by Missile Racing & Fred Desjardins since I saw the race footage from last year. It looked like a fun and friendly race. This event is one of a series called the North-East Gravity Championship. They presents races such as Munsville, Mac Attack, Source Attack and many others.

To get to the race on time, I had to wake up at 5 :00 AM, hit the road for three hours, and then race all day long.

The race goes like this: the downhill feature 9 corners & hairpins on a 6% grade. It was two men heats run in jam format with the points system. Fifteen runs for each rider to qualify.

Stephane D. and A.J. Powell on o-tangs

Fifteen runs, it’s pretty long but it was sunny, people were so nice and the hill was so freaking insane that I probably did the course 30 times! I was riding a Loaded Dervish with Orangatang 4 Prez and Gullwing trucks on Jimz 82,5a bushing. It’s not a downhill board, but in that kind of race: it was the perfect fit!

I was a little bit nervous about the results against true downhill boards with precision trucks but after a couple of practice run and the first heat, I realised that it’s a mind game. I took advantage of the Dervish. The board pumps and carves as hell! I passed a couple of guys pumping.

Finally, I lost two runs on fifteen. My final score was 17. I was tie with three other guys. We did the final to decide which one will have the third place. JF Boily did 15 perfect runs. Nobody has beatten him. He finally got first place. Yann Lhermite finished second. I did the final against Mathew Kienzle for the fourth place. I won that hard race. On the other side, Alan James Powel raced against Benjamin Dubreuil. We’ve done a final A.J. Powell and I. It was the sketchiest start. Our wheels touched together, after a couple of pushes, we started this race for real. I took the lead. AJ was blowing in my neck all race long. On the final straight line, AJ pumped hard to overtake me but I resisted. In the end, I knew I got my first DH podium! We walked to the top of the hill and I was feeling happy!
