October 17th in the afternoon, after a lot of hours at job and a lot of accumulated anxiety, we finally left Montevideo, Uruguay to Potrero de los Funes in Argentina. We arrived Thursday morning feeling subtly the pressure of the high altitude.
Andrés Varietti, Sowi Rodríguez, Lucio Faina and I (Daniela Montes de Oca), travelled approximately 1200 km in 12 ours to particpate in the Snake Skeleton IGSA Race in San Luis. This place became a paradise for us (and for every rider I think) since the moment we arrived because of their meandering hills and flowers fragance in the air. A lot of riders from all over the world were hanging arround, skating, speaking in different languages but all of them with the same slang: longboarding.
The same day the organization completed the corresponding inspections of the equipment and the registration of all the riders. Then we just wait expectant of the final resoulutions to start racing the next day.
So here’s what happened:
Day 1 / Friday 19th:
09:00 am – Freeride in a beautiful sunny day with warm weather and a new speed record in San Luis of 97km/h reached by Dalúa. A few accidents happened that day because the tailwind was blowing hard but fortunatelly nothing serious happened.
Day 2 / Saturday 20th:
08:00 am – The racetrack was enabled with a lot of headwind and the organization waited till the riders were there to start. The warm up sessions started in the morning and in the afternoon the qualifying runs tooked place till 06:00 pm. So the day was ending pretty quiet with a nice feeling and less accidents than the day before because of the headwind.
Day 3 / Sunday 21st:
The first runs started at 08:00 am and at the evening the long-awaited finals.
The event had close to 250 inscriptions with a record of 20 girls enrolled. The girls final was very tight and nobody expected to see the young Georgia -only 14 years old- taking the 1st place so clearly.
The atmosphere arround the event was really chill and I felt honored being able to share and meet so many beautiful people. The organization was great and in the awards party they gave a lot of prizes from all the different sponsors.

To complete the event just the party was left. So everybody attended to the party with a new chance to interact more relaxed, dancing a little bit and having just a couple of drinks (the accurate measurement that every athlete needs). We just forget about so much racing, knew each other deeper and had the chance to share good moments with new people.
Those were really beautiful days, with incredible landscapes, good food and friends. We expect to be there the next year. And meet you there!

Miércoles 17 de Octubre a la tarde, luego de horas de trabajo y nervios acumulados de toda la semana, partimos desde Montevideo, Uruguay hacia Potrero de los Funes, Argentina, llegando el jueves a la mañana, sintiendo sutilmente la presión de las alturas…
Andrés Varietti, Sowi Rodríguez, Lucio Faina y quien les habla (Daniela), viajamos aproximadamente 1200km en 12hs para participar en el Snake Skeleton de San Luis. Este lugar se convirtió apenas llegamos en el paraíso de cualquier rider, con cuestas serpenteantes en todas partes y olor a flores frescas en el aire. Por las calles abundaban personas con sus longboards patinando, de todas partes del mundo hablando en distintos idiomas pero todos coincidiendo en uno, que se llama longboarding.
El día jueves se terminaron de realizar las inspecciones de los equipos y cerrar las inscripciones, luego quedamos todos expectantes de la reunión final a realizada a la noche con las resoluciones de la organización para comenzar las carreras el día siguiente;

Día 1 / Viernes 19:
9am – Freeride un hermoso día de sol y calor con un record de velocidad 97km/h por Dalúa. Hubieron varios accidentados este día ya que según lo que decían los locales, muy pocas veces había habido tanto viento a favor como este día. De todas maneras no sucedió nada grave.
Día 2 / Sábado 20:
8am – Con viento en contra, ya estaba habilitada la pista y se esperó un rato a que llegaran los riders. Luego comenzaron con dos tiradas warmup por la mañana y después del medio día las tomas de tiempos se realizaron por la tarde hasta las 18hs. Finalizando así con una jornada bastante tranquila y con menos accidentados que el día 1 ya que el viento jugaba en contra.
Día 3 / Domingo 21:
Desde las 8am se comenzó con las clasificaciones casi sin parar y por la tarde las tan esperadas finales.
Hubo cerca de 250 inscriptos (algunos pocos se bajaron) para este evento con un record de 20 inscripciones femeninas, la final de las chicas fue muy buena y peleada, nadie se esperaba que la pequeña Georgia de 14 años se llevara el primer puesto tan limpiamente.
El ambiente que se creó fue muy bueno y es un honor haber tenido la posibilidad de compartir y conocer a tanta gente linda. La organización se portó excelente hubieron MUCHOS PREMIOS para todos y los ganadores según categorías fueron…

Para terminar, como no puede ser de otra manera, TODOS A LA FIESTA!, en donde pudimos interactuar con mas soltura, bailando y con algunas copas de por medio, olvidándonos de la carrera, conociéndonos un poco mejor y disfrutando de la oportunidad de compartir grandes momentos con gente nueva.
Fueron días hermosos, con paisajes increíbles y comida muy buena, esperemos que se repita pronto.
