Chubby attack,
Stoked to incorporate four riders in this video, all with different styles and filmed in
different locations. The video starts off with Maxim in the San Gabriel Mountains doing
some fun bank skating utilizing the kicks of the Chubby, then getting into his tuck and
going fast. It was fun shooting at fast shutter speeds: lots of very tight shots with very
fast pans and focus rolls. Really stoked on the part where he goes through the tunnel, the
shaky camera work of the tunnel lights, and then him blasting out of the dark and into the
light.
The Trevor section has nice longer lens shots mixed with wide lens shots to show off the
beauty of the turns. On some of the shots the lighting was just so crisp against the dark
background that it almost seemed like Trevor was in a spotlight, floating through the
windy road with his shirt waving in the wind. Throughout this section Trevor skates in
and out of switch, so pay attention.
The Kyle section has some very smooth drawn out slides and very smooth focus rolls
by Stokow. The opening with the big frontside check was fun to capture following the
board the whole way. You can really see his foot resting against the wheel well flares
and the urethane sidewalls shining. Kyle also busts out some pretty long ollies in his run;
once you learn the timing of how to ollie the Chubby, you can definitely get some height
and distance.
The Dane section has flow and beauty to it, beginning in the woods and ending with an
overlooking view of the ocean. I really like the fly-by shots of him coming out of the
darkness between two rocks and the close-up of him against the ocean backdrop. Long
and wide lens shots lead you to beautiful curves and hairpins in the road.
Very stoked on the video; the riders and Stokow did an amazing job. Really digging
the long lens and focus roll shots throughout the edit. It has been a nice change from
doing the slider and crane movements that we have used for so long. Though I’m already
itching to try something new; we shall see…
