Last 21st and 22nd of July, we had in Uruguay one of the most important longboard events ever. It was a slide jam in Rivera City (on the border of Brazil, and 5 hours from the capital, Montevideo) where riders from Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil showed up to share some skating and good vibes.

The first day, after having a long day of collective logboarding, a competition took place between 35 riders from the 3 countries. 3 prizes were given in the category of “freeride” and one in “tech sliding”.

Felipe Mastroianni (UY) finished in the first place, Leonardo Freire (BRA) took second and Rafa Gonzalez (UY) ended with the third prize. In the tech sliding category the only one who reached the poduim was Damian “DemonSlide” dos Santos (UY).

I think that this kind of event shows the potential that longboarding has to bring people from diferent cities and countries together. The love for this sport was the engine that motivated a few young riders to organize an event in Rivera with no greater prize than coming together with peers and sharing a weekend full of longboarding. It also encouraged a lot of other riders to travel many kilometers to attend from distant lands and presented Rivera for the second time as one of the important Uruguayan longboarding destinations.

As a rider, I knew a lot of great people as well as excelent riders and at the same time, I realized that longboarding is growing a lot in my country from one event to another. Also the experience of seeing how three countries were skating together forming a longboard brotherhood was very enriching.

I expect to continue attending and making this kind of events – inside or outside of Uruguay – so we can continue meeting more people who love this sport and enjoying great times. For sure, the Rivera slide jam was one of my favotites trips and events ever!

Juntando 3 países

El 21 y 22 de Julio, se realizó uno de los eventos mas importantes para el longboarding uruguayo. Fue un “slide jam” en la ciudad de Rivera (en la frontera con Brasil, a 5 horas de la capital, Montevideo) que contó nada mas y nada menos que con la presencia de riders de Uruguay, Argentina y Brasil.

El sabado, luego de tener un largo día de longboarding colectivo, compitieron 35 riders de los 3 países y se entregaron 3 premios en la categoria “freeride” y uno en la categoria “tech sliding”.

Felipe Mastroianni (UY) se quedo con el primer puesto, Leonardo Freire (BRA) fue por el segundo y Rafa Gonzalez (UY) se quedó con el tercero. En la categoría “tech sliding” el único que subió al podio fue Damian “DemonSlide” dos Santos (UY).

Creo que este evento demuestra el potencial que tiene el longboarding para juntar gente de distintas ciudades y países. El amor por este deporte motivó a unos pocos jóvenes a organizar un evento en Rivera, sin lucro mayor que el de juntarse con sus pares a compartir un fin de semana de longboarding. También incentivó a tantos otros a viajar cientos de kilómetros para asistir desde tierras lejanas y logró que por segunda vez, el longboarding uruguayo se uniera en la ciudad de Rivera.

Como rider, me permitió conocer mucha y muy buena gente, así como excelentes riders, y a su vez, darme cuenta de que cada día crece más el deporte en mi país. También fue muy enriquecedora la experiencia de ver como se juntaban 3 países hermanos para compartir el excelente nivel que hay en la región.

Espero que se sigan haciendo estos “trips” hacia eventos dentro o fuera de Uruguay, así podremos seguir conociendo más gente que ama este deporte y disfrutando buenos momentos! Por lejos, este fue uno de los mejores trips y eventos hasta ahora…
